Scrooge or Santa? Driving during the holidays

Traveling during the holiday season? Or just trying to get by “the mall area” on your daily commute? Our November newsletter was popular with readers so we’ve put together some new travel tips for you since AAA says there will be 91.3 million drivers on the road this holiday season. Falalalalah lalalalahhhhhh!

Baby, It’s Cold Outside Pack a cold weather safety kit for your car. Some essentials include: blankets, a flashlight, a first aid kit, jumper cables, an extra pair of thick gloves, and an ice scraper. At any time of the year, it’s smart to have non-perishable snacks like crackers and nuts and a few bottled waters.

Over the hills and through the woods Before you leave, check your car’s fluid levels, tires, and windshield wipers. Charge your cell phone and gas up the night before.

Then one foggy Christmas Eve Be sure to check the weather and road conditions before you depart. Here’s a link for the entire US to help with that. Or download the Waze app. I used it at Thanksgiving and it worked like Santa’s elves.

You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch If you expect Grinch to steal your parking place at the mall, cut you off, or block your intersection, you may be better off. Expecting bad behavior empowers you to preserve your own Peace on Earth.

Blue Christmas If you’re stressed out and sitting in a traffic jam, take a breath and try this stress-relieving car calisthenic. Inhale through your nose, raise your shoulders to your ears. Exhale, put your shoulders “in your back pockets.” Repeat. Repeat…the sounding joy!

Reindeer games Driving is a team sport. Don’t look at other cars and stoplights as obstacles.Even stoplights blink a bright red and green! Finally, kindness prevails over rudeness. Remember who’s comin’ to town. And he knows if you’ve been bad or good. So be good for goodness sake!

From Santa and RightLane, we exclaim as we drive out of sight, “Merry Christmas to all and to all a Good Night!”
